Engineering: Lightning & Overvoltage Protection 

   The mountains in Bolivia & humid tropical basin provide ideal conditions for lightning.  Unfortunately, much of the electrical infrastructure of Bolivia and most of the region lacks adequate grounding.  Eclectic Consulting is working locally to produce easy-to-understand literature that will help home owners, constructors, and commercial concerns to understand the risks of lightning and lightning induced overvoltage to lives and property.  We are also actively engaged in locating suppliers of TVSS / SPD devices that will provide a level of protection.  We look forward to representing suppliers of TVSS and SPD devices & lightning arrestors and/or importing them for resell.  Almost no suppliers of such devices have active representatives or sales contacts here.

 

   Working with local merchants, we have determined functionality / price break criteria for a number of computer components, portable / laptop computers, and electro-technical devices.  We are actively engaged in locating suppliers for this broad array of components, systems and services.  Almost none of the potential suppliers has direct sales or even representation here in Bolivia.  If commerical conditions merit, we will consider importation & sale of components & computer systems.

 

   A client needed help in establishing a modest enterprise here in Bolivia.  At times the forest of local requirements seems formidable, especially to someone not from Bolivia.  We were able to get the client going with commercial registration, establishing proper tax setup, getting a permit from the city, etc.  All this in seeming record time in a region not known for speedy bureacratic turnaround. 

 

In August 2008 there was a recall election in Bolivia.  Two of our associates were selected to aid the OAS (Organization of American States) as observers to the recall election.  This was an honor and a privilege and indicates the level of professionalism of our associates. 

 

* A couple needed quick, cost-effective translation of documents for immigration purposes to enter the USA.  We were able to turn around a number of required documents in a matter of a few days at a very economical price.  They were granted their visa even though very few immigration visas are granted to the USA.

* A modest sized group traveling to Cochabamba was diverted to Santa Cruz Bolivia due to international airline difficulties.  While not an emergency, it was very disconcerting to the group to be stranded.  In a matter of hours we assisted them with tickets and hotel accommodations.  One of us flew to Santa Cruz to escort them on to Cochabamba.

* Losing / separation from luggage is a risk in today's world.  We have assisted a number of people in recovering luggage that is stranded here.

  

   The computer "boom" of first time buyers continues to expand in Bolivia.  Mostly these are desktop systems that we assemble from motherboard / sub-assemblies.  Fixed / hard-disk memory is customized to the application and customer requirements.  We are seeing an increase in demand for laptops in the "affordable" price range.  We have imported a modest number of laptops to serve this need.  We will continue to look for economical but high performance laptops and desktop components.  Included in this effort is the need for service which we provide.

Grounding Installation
We provide world class grounding according to international standards. What sets us apart from any competitors is expertise in making grounding measurements and the use of all copper materials. A recent job was for a new 14 story building that will have commercial clients including a telecom firm. The telecom engineer said of our work "it looks like the grounding for a Central Office." A perfect example of what we do!!
